Based in our London office, reporting to the Syndicate Finance Director, this role will focus on Hamilton’s syndicate operations, which are split between direct syndicates and third-party syndicates.

This is a new permanent position to work alongside the existing Syndicate Finance team and supporting the CFO, Syndicate Finance Director and Syndicate Controller as required. The primary purpose of the role is to support the reporting of syndicate financial performance on both a GAAP and Underwriting year basis, including financial KPIs, analysis and narrative reporting.  This will also include ad-hoc analysis and special projects as Hamilton continues to develop and grow its operations.

In August 2019 Hamilton made a significant acquisition in the Lloyd’s market which added to its existing Lloyd’s operations.  Now that the integration of the two businesses is well underway, we are seeking to firm up the syndicate financial reporting structure.

Our ideal candidate will be someone with recent experience in a Lloyd’s managing agency or insurance company or someone from professional practice with recent experience of London market insurance audits or transactions.

  • Work with the Senior Syndicate Accountants to produce quarterly forecasts and ultimate premium packs, gross and net.
  • Liaise with the Actuarial, MI and Ceded Reinsurance teams to ensure consistency of information used for quarterly reporting.
  • Work with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to produce quarterly management account packs.
  • Assist in analytics used for quarterly US GAAP reporting to group (direct syndicates only).
  • Assist in the production of financial performance metrics, analysis and commentary for Syndicate and Managing Agency Board papers.
  • Maintain and keep up to date cash flow models by currency and create summaries for use in internal reporting packs and Lloyd’s QMA returns.
  • Monitor FX exposure within the syndicates.
  • Source and prepare standard formula data for use in the annual returns to Lloyd’s.
  • Assist in the provision of analysis information to the external auditors, to include aged debt reports and reserve reconciliations.
  • Assist in ad-hoc projects relevant to the syndicate as and when required.
  • Keep up to date with Lloyd’s requirement for reporting.
  • Review and improve reporting processes.
  • Provide cover within the wider finance team.

What you require for the role

  • Qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CPA or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Prior experience of working with actuarial and underwriting teams is advantageous
  • Experience of working with business intelligence tools
  • Financial modelling, economic analysis is an advantage
  • Good communicator (verbal and written)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines
  • First-class presentation skills with the ability to convey complex information, narrative and analysis in a succinct form, using a variety of formats (charts, graphs, tables, data and commentary)
