We’re looking for a

Senior Financial Accountant

Based in Richmond and reporting to the US Financial Controller, the Senior Financial Accountant will be an integral part of the Finance Team and help achieve departmental objectives in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment within the broader Hamilton Insurance Group. 


Responsibilities will include preparing journal entries and reconciling the trial balance in order to provide complete, accurate, timely and meaningful financial, management and regulatory information to the finance team and the broader company. The Financial Accountant will need experience among various disciplines, including U.S. statutory, technical, non-technical and investment accounting.


What you will do


  • Responsible for the preparation and control of the monthly and quarterly close process, which produces the GAAP and US statutory financials to a high quality and on a timely basis
  • Preparation of general ledger posting transactions and monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts
  • Responsible for producing the quarterly and annual NAIC filings for a newly licensed E&S insurance company, Hamilton Select Insurance Inc.
  • Seek to add value with financial reporting, providing financial acumen and narrative to support the numbers
  • Look to enhance finance processes and assist in making the close process more efficient, and timely
  • Assist with maintenance and development of systems and internal controls
  • Assist with future implementations of a financial data warehouse. new general ledger system and other financial systems as part of the Finance Transformation Project


What you require for the role


  • CPA or CA qualification
  • Excellent general ledger skills
  • 3-5 years’ experience in insurance/reinsurance accounting
  • Experience with statutory accounting software programs used in the U.S.
  • Experience in working with sophisticated spreadsheets
  • Excellent verbal and written skills  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior personnel within the group
  • Ability to prioritize issues, identify areas of difficulty and communicate clearly with the Financial Controller / CFO
