We’re looking for a

Lead Engineer, Application Development

Based in Dublin, London or the US and reporting to the Global Software Development Manager, the successful candidate will be a key technology leader in our business with responsibility for application development for internal and external users.

The successful candidate will be comfortable with a variety of frontend, middleware, backend and large-scale distributed systems, and operate like a hands-on technologist who can provide architectural leadership in the engineering of our pricing and risk platforms.   An understanding of complex specialty insurance/reinsurance systems are essential together with a proven track record of successfully leading multisite technical teams & vendors. 

What you will do


  • Lead our pricing and risk development efforts across multiple lines of business
  • Execution of strategy with hands-on leadership in driving design sessions, architectural choices, code versioning, code reviews, build processes and deployments
  • Ensure overall roadmap for the development team is understood and agreed with key stakeholders
  • Develop consumer-grade applications that can scale in a global environment
  • Develop an exceptional user experiences on desktop, web and mobile devices
  • Build a strong internal and external team of software developers who are passionate about problem solving
  • Ensure the team is following standard Agile methodology for development while anticipating bottlenecks and balancing the business needs versus technical constraints

What you require for the role


  • Extensive software development experience, including technical lead responsibilities and building systems in the cloud, using modern CI/CD practices with agile methodologies
  • Experience implementing large scale distributed systems in the Cloud (Aws/Azure/GCP)
  • High proficiency programming in Python
  • Recent working knowledge of C++
  • Good understanding and experience of one or more relational database technologies
  • Good knowledge of building infrastructure using Terraform with CI/CD of infrastructure and software
  • Good knowledge of Unix scripting, Ansible, Docker, Docker Swarm and experience with Kubernetes a plus
  • Experience building applications using microservices that are modular but highly cohesive
  • Experience with best in breed code management and documentation practices using Git and preferably Azure DevOps
  • Passion for automation and hunger for acceleration together with knowledge of DevOps as well as RPA is a big plus
  • Agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
