We're looking for a

Casualty Treaty Underwriter

Based in the New York, Connecticut, New Jersey or Richmond, Virginia areas and reporting to the Head of US Casualty Reinsurance, this role will help drive the development of our US reinsurance portfolio.


The purpose of this role is for a talented, dynamic, and technical underwriter to bring additional underwriting, analytic, and servicing resources to our growing US operation. This role will focus on Casualty reinsurance treaty placements for Global, National and US Regional carriers.


The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to manage our existing portfolio, as well as developing and servicing new relationships. 


What you will do


  • Production, underwriting, and negotiation of new and renewal Casualty treaty accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines
  • Work closely with actuarial and risk modeling units to develop appropriate technical pricing for each individual treaty
  • Monitor performance of individual accounts and identify/address emerging issues
  • Develop underwriting production goals and actively participate in broker marketing/industry events
  • Analyze and negotiate contract wording for accuracy and compliance with guidelines
  • Perform underwriting reviews of client portfolios and compile detailed written reports
  • Participate in portfolio projects and support operational objectives

What you require for the role


Key Attributes

  • Minimum 5 years of casualty treaty underwriting experience
  • Experience underwriting portfolios for global, national and US regional carriers
  • Understanding of various actuarial methodologies and ability to discuss technical pricing concepts
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to offer creative solutions
  • Ability to develop strong broker and client relationships
  • Sound understanding of primary coverage issues and rates
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
