We’re looking for an

Environmental Underwriter, Wholesale

 

Reporting to the Head of Environmental, the successful candidate will work collaboratively and play a vital role from both a strategic and an underwriting perspective as Hamilton build and grow its wholesale environmental platform. 

 

The candidate will be responsible for the solicitation, underwriting, broker management and growth of Hamilton’s wholesale environmental business, and will be expected to assist with developing the underwriting strategy and business plan for the wholesale business.  The candidate will also help ensure that the business underwritten is consistent with a risk management framework that is appropriate to the nature and scale of Hamilton’s business.

 

What you will do

 

Underwriting

• Underwrite/originate/service new and renewal business for the wholesale distribution channel
• Ensure the business reflects good industry practice while always championing the Hamilton brand and culture - ensuring the business is positioned to take proactive advantage of appropriate opportunities
• Ensure underwriting optimizes business performance and enables effective portfolio decision making for the management team
• Engage in the business planning process and assist with setting the strategy for the US Environmental department wholesale plan
• Provide input to ongoing development and refinement of metrics utilized to evaluate underwriting of individual deals relative to the portfolio.

 

Marketing and Relationship

• Develop a strategy for wholesale business development activity to support the delivery of strategic goals
• Continually evaluate and adjust where needed on the Hamilton value proposition
• Seek opportunities to cross-sell and promote other Hamilton products and distribution.

 

Other Responsibilities

• Act as a role model, by promoting the Hamilton brand and culture
• Work within a framework to manage expenses within agreed budgets.

What you require for the role

 

• Experienced environmental underwriter, familiar with all aspects of Environmental underwriting such as policy structures, contractual wording, loss selection methodologies, financial analysis (risk pricing and selection), ongoing account oversight and management
• A deep understanding of all aspects of managing a book of business and underwriting - thus writing the appropriate risks at the right price
• Have a strong network of wholesale brokerage contacts
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and market conditions
• Self-starter, capable of working independently
• Collaborative with superb negotiation skills.
